Drs. Kevin And Jane Lilly: All About Dental Sealants

OK, OK…  THE TOPIC OF “DENTAL SEALANTS” IS ABOUT AS EXCITING AS IT SOUNDS—but don’t let the boring name fool you. In some cases, this simple and quick procedure is one of the easiest things we can do for you to help prevent cavities and tooth decay.

Drs. Kevin and Jane recommend dental sealants as preventive dental care for most children. In addition to them sometimes still learning regular dental care, children’s teeth have small depressions and grooves. These grooves make it harder to properly clean them using brushing alone. Sealants are applied as a layer over these grooves, creating a protection which helps keep plaque from forming in the small crevices. Even though it’s ideal to get sealants as a child, adults can often be good candidates for dental sealants.

Sealants are applied during a very short visit here at our office. After your teeth are cleaned and prepped, the sealing solution is painted directly on tooth surfaces. Then, a curing light hardens the sealant. After the sealant is hardened you’re on your way—no need to wait to eat or drink. Routine dental checkups to our office will keep tabs on your sealants, making sure they’re in good condition.

Some insurance companies cover sealants, and the procedure can last about 10 years—making one application last from childhood, well into adulthood. To see if it’s the right time to get sealants for your children or yourself, just ask us using our contact form. Or, you can always send us a message on our Twitter or Facebook sites with your questions. Or just give us a call at 712-239-5125, we love hearing your voice too!

I have been receiving your emails and I want them to continue. I must say that your are up front in your communication with your patients. Although when I say that you are up front, I should be saying who is number one and who is number two. My wife Roberta has always taught me that the ladies come first, and I believe that I must defer to her judgement. So when I say that you are up front, I have to give Jane full credit for being the leading person in your rather ingenious way of keeping in touch with your patients. Not only is it a way of keeping in touch but it is also educational as well. I trust that Kevin will acknowledge that I am not out of line in giving Jane the full credit for keeping in touch through modern technology, because as long as our wives are happy and get the credit that they deserve and have really earned, then the husband will indeed by happy as well

I have learned a lot from many people as I have gone through life, and every day is a new learning experience. I have learned a lot from my clients, and I have always been grateful to some of the ideas and techniques a client exposed me to when I was just a young CPA starting out and learning the ropes. Unlike may professions, the professional practice of accounting requires a lot of learning through hands-on experience. Perhaps that is true of other professions, but I have always thought that it is uniquely true in the practice of accounting. Perhaps if I were exposed to the professional side of other fields of endeavor that I would think that experience is necessary in those practices as well.

Perhaps the most important aspect of what we do is the satisfaction and happinesss that we get from what we do. I have always enjoyed my work, and in particular I have received the most satisfaction in helping others. I have covered a large area of service in my professional life including structuring companies, offering assistance to people with tax problems and financial problems, providing incentives for people to build their businessess and provide for their families and countless other ways that are too many to mention. I believe that you certainly can say the same thing about your professional practice as dentists. Although I have only been in your office on one occasion, I was impressed by the professional attitude and fine dental care that you offered to me. Jane is not only an excellent dentist, but I thought our conversation about our families added an element of care that goes beyond dentistry. I felt right at home with Jane, although she was really engaged in providing me with a much needed service.

I noticed when I drove past your office on a number of occasions that you have added more space. I am certain that it is needed and will add another dimension to what was already a fine office. I wish you well with this expansion and I am looking forward to seeing what you have done. I am somewhat of a veteran when it comes to expanding offices. I have done this several times over the years. It is always interesting to see how the new offices turn out and provide for additional efficiencies in the utilization of space.

Having said more than I anticipated in what started to be just a few words, I will now sign off and trust that you will continue to stay in touch.

    DAVID STERLING
